Army solider with army dog on tour in full army clothing

Tom Moir

I've always had a passion for training dogs, but it was joining the Royal Army Veterinary Corps in 2003 that truly set me on the path to making it my life's work. During my time in the Army, I served two tours of Afghanistan as a Detection Dog handler and left the military in 2011 as a Troop Sergeant, having trained numerous dogs and handlers along the way.

That experience laid the foundation for a rewarding career in professional dog training. After leaving the Army, I worked in the private sector, training dogs and handlers for high-profile events like the 2012 London Olympics. I also trained detection dogs for the United Nations in Ethiopia and travelled there to train the handlers on the ground.

In 2014, I joined a new team in Northern France, preparing detection dog teams to work alongside UK Border Force. From there, I became self-employed, continuing to train dogs, handlers, and trainers in a wide range of specialist disciplines including explosives, narcotics, and live body detection.

Now, through ScentMasters UK, I’m bringing that operational experience into the pet world—helping owners tap into their dog’s incredible natural scenting abilities. My goal is to make scentwork rewarding, accessible, and fun for both dog and handler, no matter their background.

Let make it happen for you and your dog
